District 4-H Cookery

District 4-H Cookery Contest

Twelve youth from across Vernon Parish recently competed at the District 4-H Commodity Cookery in Alexandria.  Each earned this opportunity after being named Champions at the 4-H Food Festival held back during the Thanksgiving holidays at Leesville Junior High.  4-H members participating demonstrated their food preparation and safety and food presentation skills and their knowledge of nutrition and fitness as they prepared their dishes for competition.  Dishes were judged on nutrition, recipes, taste, originality and appearance.

Representing Vernon Parish were:

Ethan Jeane of Evans Senior 4-H who earned a Blue Ribbon in Louisiana Catfish and Red Ribbon in Sweet Potato Cookery Desserts. 

Allison Faircloth of Rosepine Elementary 4-H placed Blue Ribbon with her Crab dish and Blue Ribbon with her Egg Cookery Dessert. 

Kaity Breaux also of Rosepine Elementary 4-H placed 3rd in the Crawfish Cookery category. 

Logan Morrison of Leesville Senior 4-H placed 2nd in the Sweet Potato Other Category. 

Rae Addison also of Leesville Senior 4-H earned a Purple Ribbon with her Chicken Cookery dish and her Egg Cookery Main Dish. 

Paige Harmon of Evans Senior 4-H placed 3rd in the Processed Poultry Cookery category. 

Sonny Pynes of Vernon Middle 4-H placed 3rd in the Pecan Cookery Desserts category. 

Armando Marin of Anacoco Junior 4-H earned a Blue Ribbon in the Pecan Cookery Desserts category.  

Caleb Minion of Evans Senior 4-H placed Blue Ribbon in the Beef Cookery One Dish Meal Category.
