Twenty-three 4th – 6th graders from across Vernon Parish recently participated in Summer 4-H Camp at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA along with 512 other campers, teens and adult volunteers from Rapides, Allen, Caddo, Evangeline, and Jackson Parishes. Campers spent the week participating in educational tracks that included Outdoor Adventures and focused on ATV safety, shooting sports, and Hunter Education; FIRE which focused on nutrition and fitness and where participants learned about healthy snacking, and cooked veggie kabobs and pizzas outdoors in homemade ovens; SET – Science, Engineering and Technology where campers shot off rockets, flew boomerangs, built boats and made lots of noise; Dramatic Arts where campers wrote and performed skits and inspirational programs and made puppets and set designs; and Wetlands that focused on Louisiana Wetland education and conservation. Participants also had the opportunity to enjoy recreational time that could include swimming, cycling, parachute games, line dancing, softball and more.
