4-H Achievement Day Celebrates Project Work

Union Parish 4-H members celebrated the end of the 2007-08 school year by attending 4-H Achievement Day, Friday, May 9, at the D’Arbonne State Park.

The morning session was opened by pledges led by Logan Simpson and Levi Townsend.

4-H members attended six, thirty minute sessions featuring different 4-H projects. Rafash Brew, LSU AgCenter Horticulture Specialist and Odis Hill, Southern University Assist. County Agent in Morehouse/Union taught a horticulture class; Matt Stephens, LSU AgCenter Area Agent, taught an environment class; Cathy Judd, LSU AgCenter FCS Agent Lincoln/Union taught a foods/nutrition class; Marsha Edwards, LSU AgCenter Master Gardener/4-H volunteer taught an art class; Bill Breed and Dana Norsworthy, La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries conducted a fishing clinic; and Taylor Snell, Kyle Hicks, Conrad Cable and Raven Lee shared 4-H opportunities for senior members.

In the afternoon, 4-H members received awards and recognition. Members that won project book awards included:

Receiving the E. W. Wilson Award for the Outstanding 4-H Record Book was Kaden Cable.

Receiving State 4-H Jr. Awards of Excellence were Katie Mathis and Bethany Rhodes.

Key Club Awards were received by Kyle Hicks and Conrad Cable.
