More than 1,600 4-H’ers and volunteer leaders from Louisiana's 64 parishes got together on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge to participate in competitive activities and learning experiences from June 17 to June 20, 2008.
Several 4-H members of St. Mary Parish had the opportunity to participate in this great educational experience. For four days this group of 4-H’ers experienced life in the college environment, tour the LSU campus, and each one of them was able to participate in educational tracks and contests of their interest.
A variety of educational programs are offered for all participants in contests and these programs are offered while 4-H members are not participating in their contests. To participate in the different contests they had to train and study for weeks and they were able to compete with kids from all over Louisiana. If they choose not to compete they have the opportunity to be part of the noncompetitive educational tracks offered at 4-H University in Clover College, like Team Building, Forensics, bring out the actor in you or sharpen public speaking and communication skills.
Lyndsi Maus placed first at the state competition in 4-H Has Talent; Hailey Hebert was a blue ribbon winner in the Horticulture Contest, and Ashten Hebert, Hailey Hebert and Andrew Chauvin were blue ribbon winners in the Horticulture Judging Team.
