With “Fun for a week; Memories for Life” as the theme 59 St. Martin Parish elementary 4-H members started their summer vacation June 2 – 6, 2008, by attending summer camp located at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, LA. They were joined by an additional 400 4-H members from Lafourche, Winn, Grant, Red River, Claiborne, Natchitoches, and Sabine Parishes. Each club member selected an educational track to experience each morning from the topics of Outdoor Adventures-including hunter safety certification, F.I.R.E. - Food Is Really Exciting!, Dramatic Arts …Let’s Put on a Show!, Explore Louisiana: Wetlands, Wildlife & Water! or Get Ready; Get SET…Science, Engineering & Technology! Each afternoon they rotated as groups participating in the following activities: water volleyball, cycling/parachute, arts and crafts, archery, team-building, canoeing, line dancing and technology. Evening activities included a guest speaker on the Louisiana trapping industry and a special presentation and activity on Louisiana Wetlands. Additional evening activities consisted of a movie, dance, swimming or arts and crafts projects.

Five high school members of the parish Junior Leader club served as counselors and group leaders for the camp. They were Jacob Albert, Trey Thibodeaux, Hannah Thibodeaux, Kelli Cantu and Megan Conques. Serving as chaperones and teachers were parent Dina Theriot, and St. Martin Extension agents Chris Robichaux, Margaret Frey and Hope Guidry.
