Four-H’ers from throughout Pointe Coupee spent hours searching for their perfect recipe and giving it a trial run for the 4-H Sugar & Pecan Cookery Contest held March 8 at The Cottonport Bank Community Center. What a terrific way to use our parish commodities sugar and pecans.
Youth had the option of entering dishes in both the Sugar and Pecan Cookeries. The Sugar Cookery categories included: Elementary Division (4th-6th Grade) – Cookies, Muffins, Cake; Junior Division (7th&8th Grade) - Fudge without pecans, Candy without pecans, Pie without pecans, Cake; Senior Division (9th-12th Grade) - Pie without pecans, Cake, Bread, Candy without pecans: The categories for the Pecan Cookery were: Elementary Division (4th-6th Grade) – Cookies, Brownies, Nut Bread; Junior Division (7th&8th Grade) – Pecan Candy, Brownies, Pecan Pie, Cake; Senior Division (9th-12th Grade) – Pecan Candy, Brownies, Nut Bread, Pecan Pie, Cake. All entries were made from scratch including no box mixes or prepared mixes.

The results of the Sugar Cookery are: Elementary Division: Cake – 1st Place Boyd Smith, 2nd Place Carley Major, 3rd Place Molly Cline, 4th Place Williams Jewell, and 5th Place Bailey Jarreau. Muffins – 1st Place Racheal Gaude, 2nd Place Bailey Dixon, 3rd Place Mattie Bollich, and 4th Place Skylar Hebert. Cookeries – 1st Place Carley Major, 2nd Place Rebecca Brown, 3rd Place Bailey Dixon, 4th Place Racheal Gaude, and 5th Place Abbey Devillier. Best of Show in the Elementary Division went to Boyd Smith with his Chocolate Coconut Cake. Junior Division: Cake – 1st Place Maddie Barbay. Junior Pie (without pecans) - 1st Place Kate Short. Fudge (without pecans) – 1 | | These 4-H Pecan Cookery winners are recognized with terrific prizes for their efforts. | | p>st Place Maddy Barbay. Best of Show in the Junior Division went to Kate Short with her Fudge Pie. Senior Division: Pie (without pecans) – 1st Place Alanna Williams, and 2nd Place Shanetria Pierson. Best of Show in the Senior Division went to Alanna Williams with her Chocolate Cheesecake.
Hats off to the following 4-H’ers who entered the Pecan Cookery Contest: Elementary Division: Nut Bread – 1st Place Masyn Cameron, 2nd Place Hannah Dixon, 3rd Place Sam Guidroz, 4th Place Rebecca Brown, 5th Place Emily Cashio, and Participation went to Katelyn Bellelo, Reed Smith, Abbey Devillier, Mattie Bollich, and Austin David. Brownies – 1st Place Carly Major. Cookies – 1st Place Jack Dixon, 2nd Place Molly Cline, 3rd Place Kellie Mounger, and 4th Place Bailey Jarreau. Best of Show in the Elementary Division went to Masyn Cameron with her Nut Bread. Junior Division: Cake – 1st Place Kate Short, and 2nd Place Maddy Barbay. Brownies – 1st Place Brandee Chenevert. Best of Show in the Junior Division went to Kate Short with her Chocolate Cake. Senior Division: Pecan Candy – 1st Place Alanna Williams. Pecan Pie – 1st Place Alanna Williams. Cake – 1st Place Katherine Robillard. Best of Show in the Senior Division went to Katherine Robillard with her Yam Cake.
