| 107 Lafourche Parish 4-H'ers attended 4-H Summer Camp June 2-6, 2008. |
One hundred seven 4-H members, 5 junior leaders and 3 adult leaders from Lafourche Parish attended Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, LA June 2-6, 2008. “Fun for a week; Memories for Life” was the theme of this year’s summer camp. 4-H’ers from Lafourche were joined by an additional 400 4-H members from St. Martin, Winn, Grant, Red River, Claiborne, Natchitoches, and Sabine Parishes. Each club member selected an educational track to experience each morning from the topics of Outdoor Adventures-including hunter safety certification, F.I.R.E. - Food Is Really Exciting!, Dramatic Arts …Let’s Put on a Show!, Explore Louisiana: Wetlands, Wildlife & Water! or Get Ready; Get SET…Science, Engineering & Technology! Each afternoon they rotated as groups participating in the following activities: water volleyball, cycling/parachute, arts and crafts, archery, team-building, canoeing, line dancing and technology. Evening activities included a guest speaker on the Louisiana trapping industry and a special presentation and activity on Louisiana Wetlands. Additional evening activities consisted of a movie, dance, swimming or arts and crafts projects.
Five high school members of the parish Junior Leader club that served as counselors were Trey Acosta, Beth Barrilleaux, Taylor Bernard, Adrienne Rousse and Brandi Melancon. Serving as adult leaders were Lynn Curole, Alex Gaudet and Billy Cheramie along with Lafourche Extension agents Donna Ayo and Katie Wilcox.
