Leaf ID Contest
Entries for the Leaf ID contest are due on Thursday, October 30. The contest will involve the following:
- Each leaf on 1 piece of construction paper
- 1 roll of scotch tape (only)
- A pen or pencil
- 15 different leaves present in notebook (1 leaf per page)
Point System Grading
- Notebook of leaves -- 60 points
- Right amount of leaves -- 10 points
- Neatness of work (very important) -- 30 points
Total -- 100 points
Prizes Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
4-H'ers are to tape each leaf on 1 separate sheet of paper. You should have 15 sheets of paper, with a leaf on each page.
Be specific when identifying leaves. For example, if a leaf is from a Southern Red Oak tree, do not identify the leaf as just oak, identify as Southern Red Oak. If the leaf is from a Live Oak tree, do not identify as just oak, use Live Oak. If it is from a Longleaf Pine tree, do not identify as just pine, use Longleaf Pine. If the leaf is from a Red Maple tree do not identify as just maple leaf, use Red Maple.
The contest will be done on your own and is to handed in by Thursday, October 30. Give your entry to the 4-H leader at your school or bring to the LSU AgCenter office in Columbia. Do not forget to put your name, school and grade on your notebook!
This collection must be done this school year. You cannot use a previous year's entry!
There will be a Junior and Senior division for this contest.
