The Bossier Parish Joint Extension Advisory Leadership Council was established in January 2007. The responsibilities of the members of this joint Advisory Leadership Council are to represent their peers, identify needs and issues, identify opportunities for collaboration, be active in sharing skills and knowledge to help the parish and to understand the LSU AgCenter/Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service as a community resource.

BOSSIER PARISH ADVISORY LEADERSHIP
COUNCIL MEETING
JULY 15, 2008
The Bossier Parish ALC meeting was held July 15, 2008 beginning at 11:00 a.m. In attendance were members Kim Howell, Christy Presley, Gail Smith, Kenneth Smith, Bill Altimus, Tommy Lacy and Tracey Hilburn and Bossier staff members Joe Barrett, Jeannie Crnkovic, Katherine Ervin, Terry Foster, Troy Menard, Joy Matthews, Ricky Kilpatrick and Alison Smith. Also sitting in as visitors were Representative Henry Burns and Gary Wyche (retired) Dept. of Corrections, Probation/Parole Office.
After a welcome by Ricky Kilpatrick and introductions, participants were asked to think about parish issues and items for which the LSU AgCenter could provide expertise, guidance, support and assistance. To facilitate and stimulate this process, the Bossier Parish agents then gave a brief report of major accomplishments for the past year (see attached file). Afterwards, the parish issues discussion continued and participants listed these items as key issues for Bossier Parish.
1. Cyber Command
2. Haynesville Shale
3. New schools
4. New homes
5. Retention of high school age 4-H’ers
The Bossier agents will keep these issues in the forefront as they plan programs and events for the coming year.
Troy mentioned that Bossier senior 4-H’ers Dillon Bruce, Erika Anderson and Ben Alderman received $42,800 in scholarships. 4-H scholarships accounted for much of this, and leadership development through 4-H played a big part in the youths’ success.
Ricky mentioned that there had been some unusual tree and plant disease problems in Bossier Parish recently, and reminded the group about the AgCenter’s disease diagnosis system and its importance to not only determine plant diseases but to also document these occurrences. The mapping of plant disease occurrences is used by many groups throughout the southeastern United States.
Ricky thanked the ALC members for their enthusiasm and willingness to serve on the council and learn more about the AgCenter’s programs. He asked members to be advocates of the Bossier Parish Extension Office as we depend heavily upon the local support from our police jury and school board.
Ricky also asked that ALC members whose appointments will be ending in December 2008 to please be thinking of a possible replacement for their positions.
The meeting was adjourned at noon and lunch was provided for those in attendance.
