Bossier Parish 4-H Advisory Leadership Council Meeting
July 15, 2008
The meeting began at 9:30 a.m. with the introductions of the members present: Mr. D.C. Machen (Asst. School Superintendent), Christy Presley (4-H Leader), Kim Howell (Teacher), Cindy Emerson (former 4-H parent), Belinda Krumtum (4-H Leader), Gail Smith (4-H Leader), Susie Montgomery (Bossier Chamber of Commerce), Erika Anderson (former 4-H member), Cody Clifford (4-H member), Anne Kimbrough (4-H leader) and agents, Jeannie Crnkovic and Troy Menard.
The purpose of the meeting was discussed and members were given the opportunity to discuss their role on the committee. An update on the 4-H Centennial was given including plans for the upcoming State Fair of Louisiana, a re-cap of the 4-H Alumni banquet which was held last Fall and activities that have been done in the parish.
Jeannie and Troy discussed the events of the past year including graduating senior scholarship winners, successful programs, the visit from the Arkansas 4-H agents, community service projects, service learning activities involving the Jr. Leaders and other highlights that have taken place within the parish. Committee members commented on the success of these programs and Susie Montgomery with the Bossier Chamber of Commerce offered to send the “4-H Stories” of the three graduating seniors to all of her media contacts. Jeannie agreed to get these stories and e-mail them to Susie for publicity for the parish 4-H program. Mr. Machen commented that the agents should consider contacting Sallie Namie (Asst. School Superintendent) regarding the Science, Engineering and Technology mandate that the AgCenter has adopted because she is involved with this on the school level.
Troy reviewed the options available for the program focus lessons for the upcoming school year: Elementary=Character Education, Coastal Creatures, Elementary Bullying, Elementary Fitness, Outdoor Cooking, LEAP and SKIN; High School=Financial Management, High School Driving Safety, High School Identity Theft and Workforce Prep. After the meeting, the votes were tabulated and LEAP lessons were chosen for the elementary club meetings and Financial Management for the high school club meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
