Pest Alert Notice ... Citrus Greening

Citrus greening is a serious disease affecting citrus varieties and some ornamentals. The Asian citrus psyllid, an insect responsible for spreading the disease, has been found in Louisiana.
The Asian citrus psyllid transmits the bacterium that can infect most citrus varieties. It (the insect) was detected in South Louisiana in June 2008. This disease (citrus greening) has wreaked havoc with revenue derived from commercial citrus produiction on the African and Asian continents. So this insect could seriously impact the citrus industry in Louisiana.
The LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service are coordinating a united effort to educate Louisiana homeowners and commercial citrus producers regarding the Asian citrus psyllid.
