Collected turf sample should be at least 4 x 4 inches.

Herbaceous Plants

  1. Dig up the entire plant with roots and adjacent soil intact, if possible.
  2. Wrap only the root system in the plastic bag to retain moisture.
  3. Submit both diseased and healthy parts of the plant.
  4. Wrap the plant(s) in newspaper and place the sample in a sturdy box for shipment.
  5. Do not forget to include Plant Disease Identification Form with all necessary information provided.

Trees and Shrubs

  1. Collect several infected branches. Do not forget that completely wilted or dead branches are subject to secondary pathogens and not viable for proper diagnosis.
  2. Place the sample in plastic zippered bag to retain moisture.
  3. Put the sample in a sturdy box for shipment.
  4. Do not forget to include Plant Disease Identification Form with all necessary information provided.

Turf

  1. Collect both diseased and healthy portions of the grass on the same sample with roots and adjacent soil intact.
  2. Sample should be at least 6"x6".
  3. Wrap the sample in newspaper and place it in a sturdy box for shipment.
  4. Please do not place it in a plastic bag. Do not add water since added moisture allows proliferation of secondary pathogens and deterioration of plant material.
  5. Do not forget to include Plant Disease Identification Form with all necessary information provided.
